Putting down our dog was a painful experiences I wish on no one. However, it is an unselfish act made easier by Arms of Aloha. Dr. Amanda came to our home respectful and sympathetic to our plight, carefully explaining each step of the process and making our Labrador Retriever as comfortable as possible. Their compassion shows from the moment you call them.

We saw our little Ali'i, a blue Stafford Shire/Pit Bull mix of nearly ten years begin a rapid decline about a week before we contacted Arms of Aloha. Twice before in our forty years of keeping and loving dogs, we've had to take one to the Humane Society to be euthanized. All we could do on those occasions was watch the dog disappear into a building. That was it! We never got over the sense of abandoning someone we loved so much in his greatest hour of need. That haunted us for years, and still troubles us deeply. We never knew of Carolyn Naun, DVM's Arms of Aloha service until we read a feature story about her and her business in the Star Advertiser earlier in the year. Immediately we knew that if such a time ever came again, we would ask Arms of Aloha to come to our home, and never again 'drop off' a dog to be euthanized!We are just totally grateful and feel blessed by the wonderful Love and Compassion that Dr. Naun showed to Ali'i and to us as well. Ali'i was not able to walk much at all anymore, so he was resting comfortably in 'his' bed, a big king size one that he also welcomed his best friend 'Ipo, a blue female Pit Bull, and his guardians to sleep in as well. Here we were able to give him a chocolate cookie and cuddle him a few more times before he got his first shot which just caused him to feel drowsy and then quickly fall into sleep. Once he was peacefully sleeping, the Doctor administered a second shot, a greater amount of the anesthetic which stopped his heartbeat. So he never experience anything but our Love, the delicious cookie, and the sleepiness that soon carried him off to the Rainbow Bridge.Dr. Naun explained to us that we would soon receive his ashes in a beautiful mahogany box in a black velvet bag that read 'Until we meet again on the Rainbow Bridge', an acrylic footprint, a tuft of his fur in a little silk bag, and a Certificate of Cremation from the Oahu Pet Crematory. After she left with Ali'i in a little shroud, we discovered she had left a paper sack with some sheets of helpful information and resources for those who've lost a loved one, and with a little electric candle glowing inside to light up the writing on the sack which read 'My Love Still Shines Bright'. Four days later Colleen, an Associate of Arms of Aloha personally returned him and the memorabilia to our home. She, too, like Dr. Naun, was a person just glowing with love, sympathy and compassion.About a week later we received a personally hand crafted card and handwritten note of sympathy from Dr. Naun, wishing us peace, love and aloha. All in all, we were deeply touched and left with the feeling that Arms of Aloha had truly helped us through what has to be the most difficult and heart breaking decision a pet owner ever has to make. We would absolutely recommend Arms of Aloha to everyone who may ever find themselves in need of loving and compassionate End of Life service for their dearly loved pet.

Arms of Aloha staff and doctors know the meaning of compassion in compassionate service. We recently had to say goodbye to two of our pets that had been in the family for 15 and 17 years. It was difficult to make the decision in the first place, but I felt that they guided me through the process with helpful guidance and assistance. I simply cannot say enough about the love and care my family received from everyone at Arms of Aloha. Saying goodbye to a family member is never easy, but they have made the process a beautiful experience that honors the life and memory of our beloved Lucy and Whitters.

My best friend lost his battle with cancer and I had to make the hardest decision of my life. I’m just so incredibly thankful that I could have his last moments on the ranch he loves and that there are people so compassionate and selfless to do such a hard job as this. I am forever in debt to arms of aloha and Dr Amanda for making hanks passing so peaceful. 💔❤️. The hard written card they sent just shows how this is more than a job to them this is something that isn’t easy for anyone including the vet to do. Yet it’s such an important service to offer to our loved ones.
